Fun in the Desert

En route to our desert safari. Modern day Dubai probably looked a lot like this before the construction boom.

The desert landscape has a natural beauty.

Repping the hometown team in the sands of Dubai.

Riding the sand dunes in the Land Cruiser was a highlight for me and a lowlight for Crystal. Your enjoyment of roller coasters will tell you if you're in the "love it or leave it" camp. First sign of a thrilling ride. A roll cage bar added to the Land Cruiser. Luckily, we didn't have to use it. Our driver, Yusef, wouldn't cop to whether or not he ever rolled one of the Cruisers and needed it.

Descending the dunes at sunset. We were among a caravan of 12 jeeps heading to a desert camp for dinner and entertainment.

Our driver, Yusef, was awesome and took good care of us. All of the drivers displayed some pretty incredible skill at maneuvering the jeeps across the dunes. Prior to hitting the dunes, the tire pressure is lowered to increase traction and lower the vehicle's center of gravity.

Arabian Night drivers cooling the engines and checking the health of the vehicles after some serious abuse.

After a day of walking through the dunes, this was the souvenir that collected in my shoe. Walking in the sand proved challenging since your foot sunk in pretty deep with each step.

What's a visit to the desert without camels?

The camp was arranged with tables and seating around the stage and souvenir shops, henna tattoo parlor, and dinner set up around the perimeter.

The camel ride was fun. It was a short walk, but you got the feel for riding one of these creatures through the desert. They're pretty amazing animals.

Just as the sun sets on the desert sands, our Dubai adventure comes to a close. All good things must come to an end and the "City of Gold" left us with memories to treasure.
